Though Feerie has no Romeo & Juliet storyline, like the Spectacular! Spectacular! show featured in the movie, film fans need not worry. Similar to Baz Luhrman’s movie, it’s a feast for the eyes and features the performance of the legendary Moulin Rouge dancers (nicknamed Doriss Girls), who bring the traditional can-can dance to life.
Add glitzy costumes, acrobatics, comedy shows performed by clowns and magicians and a night spent at Moulin Rouge is simply splendid.

Before Sunset (2004)

This film brings two souls, Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy), from Before Sunrise back in Europe. Instead of Vienna however, this time they wander through the streets of Paris.
Reconstruct their tour by browsing through the extensive collection at the Shakespeare & Co. bookstore in the vibrant Quartier Latin. The homey bookstore is the famous flop house of over 50,000 visitors, including celebrated writers like Henry Miller, James Baldwin, and Lawrence Durrell, just to name a few. Book and history aficionados shouldn’t miss this historic institution.
Avoiding the clichés of the city’s more famous Luxembourg and Tuileries gardens, the film used the Promenade Plantée, which runs from the Bois de Vincennes to Bastille. The 4.5 kilometer long elevated park makes for an easy afternoon walk or intense tête-à-tête, just like Jesse and Celine’s. Followed it up with coffee for two at the Pure Café (14 Rue Jean Macé) where visitors can imitate the movie by chatting over café au lait.
In one of the film’s more tender moments, Jesse and Celine take a river cruise (the couple uses the Canauxrama service) to see the city from the wonderful Seine. It’s the perfect way to see Paris’s gorgeous cityscape in an hour. Take the cruise right before sunset to view the city at its best, when all the lights come on.

Paris,Je T’aime (2006)

The endless different ways to explore the romantic city are summed up in 18 different stories in this movie. One of our favorites is the Cohen Brothers’ Tuileries, in which a tourist’s (Steve Buscemi) idea of colorful Paris is ruined by an experience on board the city’s popular metro. But despite the seemingly unnerving scene, we say take the Metro to see the real Paris.

Skip Tuileries, the station portrayed in the movie, and instead head for the most fascinating station, Louvre-Rivoli. The station leads to the world’s most legendary museum (The Louvre) and boy, didn’t the city council do something about it. Magnificent replicas of famous artifacts are mounted on the Metro’s walls.

While you’re at it, jump into the train (see also Walter Salles’ segment, which stars Catalina Sandino Moreno, or Natalie Portman’s scene in the part directed by Tom Tykwer) where locals, backpackers and immigrants interact with each other in different languages. Personally, we like hearing the French words uttered in unison in that confined space of the train. It just feels, yeah, romantic.

Another place in the movie that’s worth visiting on a trip for two is the Père Lachaise (Wes Craven directed this section) where Oscar Wilde, Chopin and Marcel Proust are buried. It’s an eccentric choice but a necessary for the admirers of world’s late maestros.

Arguably the best segment in the movie, Alexander Payne’s 14th Arrondissement brings Margo Martindale, playing an American tourist, to Paris. Practicing her heavily-accented French, the new comer strolls through 14th Arrondissement’s Parc Montsouris and Montparnasse tower. Sure it’s not the Eiffel, but at 210 meters high, the Montparnasse tower has the advantage of being the tallest building in the city and gives fabulous views of the Parisian skyline.

As the film rolls to the end, Martindale’s character is filmed eating a baguette in beautiful Montsouris Park, as she watches the day go by. That very second, she realizes how she has fallen in love with the city during her trip and, most importantly, how Paris has returned the affection.

Bradford & Bingley Bank have come up with their recent survey, which they carried out in Britain, covering more than 1000
women, 35 to 44 years of age. The results concluded that only 58% of
women were ‘very happy’ with the choice of hubbies.

Further, the figures postulated that one out of 5 women thinks they have married the wrong man and therefore do not mind swapping their husbands for someone else. While, one in 12
women holds a view that it was their mistake for marrying a particular man.

Findings further revealed that although majority of
women prefer to remain single yet they want kids.

Now why this happens, after staying into a relationship over a long period of time, the two of them suddenly feels disinterested in each other? They feel as if they are not compatible and hence, start flinging stones (though not literary) to each other.

I think this happens because of the escalating level of expectations which they start keeping from each other. The two are oblivious of the fact that when one is in a relationship, expectations just drifts in and with the passage of time, it keeps on mounting- which is but natural- and when either of them do not get the desired result (of their expectations), they feel miserable and heartbroken. The same relationship which was bestowing heavenly pleasures to them becomes nothing more than a journey in arid desert land and then comes a point when they are not able to subdue their agony and feels they could have made a better choice in life by not marrying the ‘present’ partner.

This not only happens with
women but men too may develop apprehensions, at times, they might feel insecure and self doubting.

I'll call liar di Montezemolo's bluff by staying on as FIA president, warns Mosley

Max Mosley has cast fresh doubt on his future as president of the FIA after issuing an angry letter to Luca di Montezemolo, accusing the Ferrari president of making 'false statements.'

After reaching an agreement with the Formula One Teams' Association chairman Di
Montezemolo on Wednesday on the future of the sport, Mosley confirmed he would
not stand for re-election beyond his current mandate which expires in October.

However, the 69-year-old clearly feels let down by remarks made by Di Montezemolo after the announcement of the peace pact, to such an extent he has decided to leave his 'options open.'
In a strongly-worded letter, Mosley said: 'We made a deal yesterday in Paris to end the recent difficulties in Formula One.

'A fundamental part of this was that we would both present a positive and truthful account to the media.

'I was therefore astonished to learn that FOTA has been briefing the press that Mr (Michel) Boeri (president of the FIA Senate) has taken charge of Formula One, something which you know is completely untrue; that I had been forced out of office, also false; and, apparently, that I would have no role in the FIA after October, something which is plain nonsense, if only because of the FIA statutes.

'Furthermore, you have suggested to the media I was a 'dictator', an accusation which is grossly insulting to the 26 members of the World Motor Sport Council who have discussed and voted all the rules and procedures of Formula One since the 1980s, not to mention the representatives of the FIA's 122 countries who have democratically endorsed everything I and my World Motor Sport Council colleagues have done during the last 18 years.'
Mosley added: 'There was no need for me to involve myself further in Formula One once we had a settlement.

'Equally, I had a long-standing plan not to seek re-election in October. It was therefore possible for me to confirm both points to you yesterday.

'Given your and FOTA's deliberate attempt to mislead the media, I now consider my options open.

'At least until October, I am president of the FIA with the full authority of that office.

'After that it is the FIA member clubs, not you or FOTA, who will decide on the future leadership of the FIA.'

In his letter, issued to Di Montezemolo prior to a FOTA press conference earlier yesterday at Bologna airport, Mosley calls upon the 61-year-old Italian to issue an apology, and correct any inaccurate comments.

Mosley added: 'If you wish the agreement we made to have any chance of survival, you and FOTA must immediately rectify your actions.

'You must correct the false statements which have been made and make no further such statements.

'You yourself must issue a suitable correction and apology at your press conference this afternoon.'

Although Di Montezemolo failed to issue such an apology, he was at least full of praise for Mosley's work during his time in office.

Di Montezemolo commented: 'I have to say that after a month of confrontations, we are pleased to thank the president of the FIA for his decision to leave the FIA in October, for the work that he has done - particularly for safety because this was, and still is, a big priority in Formula One and the sport.

Natural outdoor air pollution includes oxides of sulphur and nitrogen from volcanoes, oceans, biological decay, lightning strikes and forest fires, VOCs and pollen from plants, grasses and trees, and particulate matter from dust storms. Natural pollution is all around us all of the time. However, sometimes concentrations can increase dramatically, for example after a volcanic eruption, or at the beginning of the growing season.

Perhaps of more concern, given our ability to have greater control over its release to the atmosphere, are the man-made air pollutants, which can have a detrimental impact on ambient air quality. The most common source of man-made air pollution outdoors is the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and gas, in power stations, industries, homes and road vehicles. Depending on the nature of the fuel and the type of combustion process, pollutants released into the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels include nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide, particulate matter, lead and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Other sources of these pollutants include forest burning, chemical, fertiliser and paper manufacture, and waste incineration. These pollutants are all called primary pollutants because they have direct sources. By contrast, there are no direct ground-level emissions of ozone to the atmosphere. Most ozone in the atmosphere near ground level is formed indirectly by the action of sunlight on VOCs in the presence of nitrogen dioxide, although a small amount comes from high up in the atmosphere where it forms naturally in the ozone layer. Ozone is a secondary ambient air pollutant.

Both primary and secondary pollutants are, to a greater or lesser extent, detrimental to human health, depending on their concentration in the air, and the sensitivity of the individual. Consequently, national and international legislation exists to regulate and control the amount of pollution emitted to the atmosphere, and to ensure that objectives for improving ambient air quality are achieved.

Jakartans would prefer single round vote for presidential election: Survey

A new survey has revealed Jakartans would prefer a single-round presidential election system, without runoff ballots, because it would be generally more efficient and save money.
“89.1 percent of our respondents said they fully agreed with the idea of having a one-round election,” the Director of the Institute of Public Policy Studies (LSKP), Sunarto Ciptoharjono, told a press conference at Blok-M, South Jakarta, on Tuesday.
“57.7 percent of those surveyed who preferred a one-round election said they believe the cost would be lower if the vote was held in one round. 18.3 percent said they were bored with the election process.”
The survey, which looked at the opinions of 440 respondents, was carried out using the Multistage Random Sampling method from June 20 to June 25.
“We have chosen 440 people as our standard sample size for many years now in our city surveys,” Sunarto said.
However, a political analyst from the Jakarta Islamic State University (UINJ), Bachtiar Effendy, said the survey was flawed.
“For example, it only looked at the responses of 440 people in Jakarta. The presidential election is a national affair, so I am not sure what kind of conclusion we can take away from this survey,” he said.
He also objected to the survey finding that a large number of people in Jakarta were bored with the election.
“If this data is valid and is in fact reflective of the national sentiment toward the election, then I truly feel democracy is in danger. Elections are the only free and fair mechanism for choosing public officials in a democratic country,” he added.
Bachtiar said the survey would likely trigger further controversy because 83.2 percent of its respondents believed that incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono would win election in just one round.
Sunarto said his institution was fully independent and free of political motives.
“We fund our own surveys. We did a lot of surveys for legislative candidates in the April 9 legislative elections and saved money for this surveys this time around,” he said.

Michael Jackson dead at 50

Pop star Michael Jackson died in a Los Angeles hospital after suffering cardiac arrest Thursday (6/25), according to reports. The Los Angeles County Coroner's office has confirmed that an autopsy is scheduled for Friday (6/26) to determine the exact cause of death.

Details of the entertainer's passing are still emerging, but sources told CNN this afternoon that Jackson, 50, had been in a coma at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. A Jackson family spokesman said he was told by Randy Jackson that his brother had collapsed at his West Los Angeles home Thursday morning.

LA Fire Department Capt. Steve Ruda told reporters that paramedics responded to a call at Jackson's home at 12:26 p.m., and that Jackson was not breathing when they arrived. CPR was administered at the scene and Jackson subsequently was taken to the hospital, Ruda added.

According to the LA Times, Jackson had rented the home in the Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles while he rehearsed for his planned series of 50 sold-out shows at London's O2 Arena, which were to have kicked off July 13. The ambitious concert run would have been Jackson's first in more than 12 years.

The Los Angeles Police Department is launching an investigation into Jackson's death, the LA Times reported. Though police reportedly do not suspect homicide, they do hope to clear up what they view as some cloudy circumstances surrounding the death.

"This is an unbelievable tragedy, first of all for his family, for his devout fans, for the world of music and for the world of culture," said jazz great Herbie Hancock in a prepared statement. "Michael was one of the most diligent creators. His passion flowed through every pore of his being. His sense of invention was unparalleled. Who else could have thought of the moonwalk and who else could have created such a unique sense of movement in dance. His contribution to music and music videos; 'Off the Wall,' 'Thriller,' 'We are the World' are expressions of his consummate talent. Above all his compassion for serving humanity and desire to uplift and encourage excellence are etched in his legacy. He changed the world."

Born in 1958 in Gary, IN, Jackson was the seventh of nine children. Along with four of his brothers, Jackson exploded on the music scene in the late '60s and early '70s as the lead singer of the Jackson 5. After signing with Motown in 1968, the group's first four singles ("I Want You Back," "ABC," "The Love You Save" and "I'll Be There") all hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Jackson started his long and fruitful solo career when he was just 14 years old, releasing four solo albums for Motown, including "Got to Be There" and "Ben." After a commercial slump in the mid-'70s, Jackson (still operating as part of the Jackson 5) left Motown and signed a record deal with Epic.

It was at Epic where Jackson realized and unleashed his immense potential as a solo artist, uncorking "Off the Wall" in 1979, which eventually sold more than 20 million copies worldwide and scored four top 10 hits, including "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Rock with You".

But it was the performer's next album that would define the remainder of his musical career. "Thriller," released in 1982, broke a myriad of chart records, remaining in the Top 10 of The Billboard 200 for 80 consecutive weeks, 37 of them at No. 1. The album produced seven Top 10 singles as well, including "Billie Jean," "Beat It" and the title song, which spawned an iconic music video, along with a somewhat ironic dance craze.

"Thriller," generally cited worldwide as the best-selling album of all time, was certified for sales of 28 million by the RIAA, with worldwide sales reportedly approaching 50 million copies.

Following up on "Thriller" was a tough act for the new King of Pop, but Jackson took his best shot, co-writing "We Are the World" with Lionel Richie in 1984, which was released internationally and sold more than 20 million copies, with the proceeds going to famine relief.

In 1987, amid reports of Jackson's increasingly eccentric behavior, the singer finally released his "Thriller" follow-up. "Bad" sold more than 30 million copies and sent five singles to the top of the Billboard charts, including "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" and "The Man in the Mirror."

In 1988 the performer purchased land near Santa Ynez, CA, and built his Neverland Ranch at a cost of $17 million. The 2,700-acre property included an amusement park, and Jackson frequently and publicly invited children to stay at the estate for sleepovers, an equation that would later lead to sexual abuse allegations against the entertainer.

Jackson released his eighth solo album, "Dangerous," in 1991. The album approximately replicated the success of his previous album, "Bad," with similar sales figures and the No. 1 single "Black or White."

In 1993, Jackson was accused of sexual abuse by 13-year-old Jordan Chandler and his father Evan Chandler. After a police investigation was unable to turn up definitive proof of the Chandlers' allegations, Jackson settled a civil lawsuit with the family out of court in 1994 for a reported $22 million.

Later that year Jackson married Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis Presley. The marriage was short-lived, with the couple divorcing less than two years later. In 1997, Jackson married dermatologist Deborah Jean Rowe and fathered two children, son Michael Jr. and daughter Paris. The couple divorced in 1999, with Rowe granting full custody of the children to Jackson.

The increasingly reclusive Jackson issued one final studio album, 2001's "Invincible," which debuted at No. 1 on the charts, but was considered a relative failure after the wild success Jackson had enjoyed over the previous two decades, with sales of more then 10 million copies worldwide and no No. 1 singles.

Following the birth of Jackson's third child, Prince Michael Jackson II, in 2002 (the mother's identity remains undisclosed), the performer was rocked by another sexual abuse allegation when Santa Barbara County, CA, police charged Jackson with seven counts of child sexual abuse.

A trial on the charge began two years later in Santa Maria, CA, lasting five months, after which Jackson was acquitted on all charges. Following the verdict, Jackson moved to the Persian Gulf nation of Bahrain as special guest of Sheikh Abdullah.

Jackson had planned on performing in front of more than one million people during the 50-night London engagement, which would have run through March 2010 and was expected to gross more than $400 million.

Intel Core i7 975 Extreme Edition [D0 Stepping] Processor Reviewed

Processors seemingly come and go as fast as the seasons. One minute, your system is the top of the line and the next it’s last month’s news. Sometimes, newly revised processors make sense and sometimes they don’t. If you’re an enthusiast who likes to stay as current as possible, it’ll eventually drive you crazy. Thus, you can easily imagine the confusion (and borderline insanity) that people researching new computer upgrades are going through.
The latest Intel processor to hit the market is their Core i7 975 Extreme Processor based on the Nehalem core. It’s Intel’s new top of the line desktop CPU with some modifications that may benefit you if you’ve been holding out for a faster, more efficient processor. Or, perhaps you simply don’t like buying first revisions because you’d like to see if something better comes along. Read on and see if the i7 975 (D0) is the chip that measures up to your standards.

Features and Specifications

The 975 clocks in at 3.33 GHz sporting the same 1333 MHz Front Side Bus as all i7s. If you’re paying attention, that’s only a meager 130 MHz faster than the 965 clocking in at 3.2 GHz. The processor’s Intel Quick Path Interconnect (QPI) speed is still capable of producing a whopping 6.5 GT/s (not GB/s) which equates in to a very large amount of memory bandwidth. That’s 1.7 GT/s more than the base non-Extreme i7 series like the 920, 940, and 950.

If you weren’t privy to the i7 naming convention, any processor ending in a ‘5′ makes it an Extreme Edition (XE) and offers an unlocked Multiplier. Non-XEs are not unlocked. This makes this the ideal series for enthusiasts who don’t know a lot about overclocking and allows you to simply raise the multiplier a couple points in the BIOS to produce overclocking magic.

What Makes the Core i7 975 (D0) Better?
The new D0 stepping means that this is a revised Nehalem core that offers lower power consumption and thermal properties despite the higher frequency. Chances are that you’ve seen more and more D0 Stepping i7 920, 940, 950, and maybe even 965 processors as of late.

The first 965 had a C0 Stepping while the i7 975 sport a D0 Stepping. The C0 stepping, while blistering fast, consumes about 1.35 Volts normally compared to the 975’s 1.15 Volts. The higher voltage most assuredly means the 965 will operate at higher temperatures despite its lower frequencies.

A bonus side effect of the D0 stepping is that the more efficient core should equate to a higher overclock than the 965. It was high heat levels and circuit limitations that kept the 965 from doing very well beyond 4GHz in past testing. We’ll check that out as well during our torture testing of this new core.

What Makes the Retail Box Worth It?

When recommending and building systems, many users ask what the differences and benefits are between buying an OEM vs a retail boxed processor. I typically recommend buying retail because the CPU carries a 3 year warranty whereas the OEM chip can vary from 30 to 90 days warranty depending on the retailer. Only an experienced enthusiast or system builder capable of backing their systems should consider OEM, in my humble opinion.

If you’re a new user or intend to use the system in a professional capacity, you definitely want to get your money’s worth. Stick with the retail box as the processor will at least be covered if something goes wrong.

Intel vs. AMD Processors

Current generation AMD and Intel processors are pretty close in performance, but guessing which will work better involves a complicated mix of both CPU and memory issues. AMD's NUMA architecture does some things better, and Intel's memory access takes a second hit in designs that use FB-DIMMs. But Intel has enough of an advantage on actual CPU performance and CPU caching that current designs are usually faster regardless.

Nowadays (mid-2008) Intel vs. AMD is tight enough that in the context of a database application that it shouldn't be a major driver in your purchasing decision process. On a real server, you should be more worried about how good the disk controller is, what the expansion options are there, and relative $/core. In the x86/x64 realm, CPU architecture is not a huge issue right now for most situations where you're running a database.
